Rassie van der Dussen was looking for the flick, but he missed and the ball went near the knee roll. After which the South African batsman took DRS and after the third umpire’s check on the ultra-edge, it went for ball-tracking.
Then a tracking window appeared for a few moments, showing that the impact was ‘Umpire’s Call’ and the wickets were ‘missing’. This window was immediately removed, and the review was restarted from the beginning. This time the tracking showed the “umpire’s call” and “hitting” of the wicket.

As a result, the umpire’s decision was upheld and Rassie van der Dussen (21) had to go back to the pavilion in disappointment. There was a lot of uproar on social media regarding this decision, due to which ICC had to come forward to give clarification.
After South Africa’s one-wicket win against Pakistan in this match of CWC 2023, the ICC admitted that the first graphic was shown ‘by mistake’ during the LBW appeal against Van der Dussen, but claimed that the correct graphic was shown immediately thereafter. And the right decision was taken.
An ICC spokesperson said, “In the World Cup 2023 match between South Africa and Pakistan, an incomplete graphic was accidentally shown on the screen during the LBW review of Rassie van der Dussen. The full graphic with correct details was displayed later.”
